Project Description.

The piece is called Looping Ribbon. It originates as a gesture or a calligraphic stroke which evokes motion and dynamism. On the one hand the bench seeks to accentuate the moving and ever changing cityscape of Dubai and the lifestyle of its citizens while on the other it provides a pause, a shade under a tree and a moment of contemplation.

An urban piece of furniture needs to be appropriated by the users, it should be flexible and responsive to different functions and sensitive to different age groups; this is what Looping Ribbon aims to be. A stage to be used for different performances from the wide diversity of actors that shape Dubai's demographics.

Installation Requirements.

The piece can be manufactured in Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) with a lightweight steel sub frame. FRC is a durable, affordable and a resistant material which can last decades in rough exterior environments with little or none maintenance. There are a number of qualified FRC manufacturers in Dubai with a track record of delivering quality bespoke designs.
